The Music Video-Matter:

The ring AzUR (DOG Productions Wayne and Luke joined with Bec And Freddie) recorded the song The Man-Thing Lives Once morethat played over the end credits of the film. Information technology was supposed to be released every bit a promo video, but since the moving picture was in a constant country of flux (financial, script, etc...) and wasn't going to get to theatres (every bit intended), the music video was pulled (lack of budget, and Marvel didn't want to leak accelerate images of the set & animate being costume earlier the films eventual release). Ane of the band members has worked on the footage and uploaded a remix on youtube.com - relish. Searches have turned some background informationon the band.

Thank you to P-TOR for tracking this video downwards for us, a dancing Man-Thing is a joy to behold.

forthehellofitreviews points out When it start premiered on SyFy it was in a two.35:1 transfer, merely when the U.S. DVD came out Lionsgate felt the need to blow it up to ane.78, and you all know how bad that is for a 2.35 picture show. I looked far and wide many years later for a disc with that 2.35 transfer and believe it or not according to dvdcompare France was the only country where information technology had a disc release in its right attribute ratio.
This looks to be the definitive version fans (the three of usa) will want, baring the appearance of the missing commentary (I presume one must have been recorded. Heck, if Brett Leonard and Hans Rodionoff ever want to tape i equally a podcast I'd gladly host information technology here!) sometime in the future. It would be good if this edition of the DVD got released in other regions or on blue-ray erstwhile before the death of physical media.
Some sources propose there was a one disc french release, but I have yet to verify this.

The Response-Thing:

Initially the comments were positive. In December 2003 a source who saw an early edit contacted aintitcool.com and had some nice things to say about the motion picture.

Then rumours started to announced regarding poor reactions from preview audiences, with one source reporting that at ane screening half the audition walked out before the moving-picture show even concluded.

The film was previewed for media people at the 25th annual American Film Market in Santa Monica on the 5th of November, 2004. The film was described on the market place site equally A horror/activeness feature in the vein of Jaws and Alien based on the popular Marvel comic book of the same name.

This screening heralded the beginning of reviews, most of which have been bad:

  • Fangoira 1½ skulls.
  • Anon Horrible
  • Moviehole.net C-form studio pap.
  • KRT Wire Miss
  • Bloody-Disgusting.com 7/10
  • Boston Herald ..will make you run for cover
  • Blogcritices It becomes a chore to picket
  • Quipster ...stigma of its ineptitude...
  • The Cease Push ...is inexpensive but it's not full of shit similar the balance of this new crop of comic book movies
  • Wizard ...better than average for Tv set horror flick.
  • Comics2Film ... those credits whiz by like lightning. It's like Sci Fi Channel was saying, "Quick, it'due south over! Get it off our network, stat!"
  • Comingsoon.net ...If you get in with depression enough expectations, information technology might end up being improve than you expect.
  • Bad Movies ... can't call up of a reason to recommend this picture show
  • Horror View Not only is this adaptation a lot improve than numerous other sites and comic fan-boys had previously led me to believe, simply I'grand genuinely glad to have picked it up.(DVD)
  • Terraaustralis ...this is a B class monster moving picture at its best, let down by a lack of extras.(DVD)
  • SFX Magazine... Man-Thing has been labelled as "Marvel'due south Swamp Matter", which does both comics a disservice. Human being-Thing, because it hit comic book counters mere months after Swampy, which is far too soon to be a rip-off; and Swamp Thing because, well... Man-Matter'due south rubbish.

Following this tradition, the film version is abysmal, despite a plot that deviates from the source material. Homo-Matter is vaguely chivalrous in the comics; here he's borderline psychotic. His superpower was to "know the fear" of anyone who wandered into his swamp - hither, he just has the ability to control veg. We're not certain who idea "this would exist perfect for a T&A horror pic!", but if we always meet them, we'll punch them in the confront.

Honestly, it's hard to convey how bad this thing is - so stylistically bereft the cinematography will make you lot think there'due south something wrong with your television receiver. As for the performances, when your pb role player looks depressed in every scene, information technology'southward fourth dimension to pack upward and go habitation.

Extras: Some terrible films come packaged with ace extras. Compulsive browsers should count themselves lucky that this is a vanilla. Sam Ashurst

Human being-thing creator Gerry Conway and Swamp Thing inventor Len Wein roomed together at college, which may explain why they pitched the same idea at the same time. Nosotros're sure they'd hate the film too.

Viewers posted reviews after the Sci-Fi screening at Super HeroHype, Yahoo Movies, and IMDB.

When I finally tracked down a copy on DVD my flatmates and I saturday downwards to sentinel it on the next rainy day. The Good points: Steve Bastoni gives his character some genuine menace. Matthew Le Nevez fabricated for an constructive hero. The cinematography is nifty. Some of the dialogue is amusing. The special effects wait impressive.

The Bad points: The story is presented in the most cliched way imaginable, with very few of the characters being more than than crude sterotypes (ruthless man of affairs, dumb swamp-billys, sagely native). There's some rather bad over-interim on display. The attempts at American accents by almost of the cast produced howls of derision and laughter. The selection of songs to get with events/characters is heavy handed.

My Verdict: I'one thousand glad I only spend NZ $9 on this. I'll watch it once again some mean solar day, but only in private and then I never once more inflict it on my friends or family. I certainly won't be in any hurry to spend coin on the 2 disc sets.

The Cast and Coiffure-Thing:

The Man-Thing Actor-Thing

7ft 1/4" Tall histrion, weight lifter, not-competetive bodybuilder and ex- professional wrestler Conan Stevens has an entry in his blog recounting his time on the film, with some squeamish backside the scenes photographs.

The Suit for a Human being-thing

Monster Legacy interviewed Nick Nicolaou, co-founder of the company Make-Up Effects Group, who brought Man-Matter to life.

The Public Talk-Thing:

The Australian film organisation Popcorn Taxi hosted a on-stage conversation with director Brett Leonard and some members of the crew on fourteen April, 2004. Check out the photographs. Reports were that this was to include a sneak-peek of footage from the picture.

The Killer-Thing?

A poster to a IMDB message board who claimed to be related to Steve Bastoni mentioned that he told them that he's the guy who kills the Man-Thing.

The Australian Alligator Hunter-Thing?

Moviehole reported that histrion Ian Bliss was interviewed in the Melbourne Beat mag

The film sticks pretty close to the Marvel comic which was a rather cult comic ....It's essentially most a swamp creature and stays quite true to the darkness of how it was drawn in the comic. I play an alligator hunter who patrols this large swamp with his brother. Jack Thompson is involved and he would be the highest profile actor in the slice. What they've done is not attach any proper noun actors and filled information technology predominantly with Australians in an attempt to permit the flick work on information technology'due south own merit, to allow the film to be a bit darker and riskier than the chimera-gum comic volume adaptations we've seen recently. They promise it works for the film but it could also piece of work confronting it.

dvd.net.au as well asked Elation nearly the film

Well Man Matter is based upon a rather obscure Marvel comic most a swamp fauna. Marvel comic readers are aware of Man Thing, and it's simply really a small audition. Only I'm not sure how it's going to work in a motion-picture show. Information technology's probably going to be a pretty absurd cult film that will become off big time. Brett Leonard that directed it has a actually nice moving ridge of one-act in it. It was a hell of a lot of fun to work on though, and the vibe is that it will be a funny horror film, as a rough cut leads anyhow.

The Kiwi Connection-Thing:

New Zealand's own Rawiri Paratene, star of Whale Rider , Shortland Streetand i time presenter on Play Schoolwas interviewed in the NZ magazine The Listenerand mentioned his work on the film...

Terminal year he was in Australia shooting a movie called Man-Thing, which is another of the plain endless run of treatments of Marvel Comics Titles... Human being-Affair is actually Marvel's equivalent to DC Comics Swamp Thing - a man turned horrid swamp creature. In the motion picture Paratene plays a Native American shaman. Mangrove swamps and rivers well-nigh Sydney stood in for Louisiana exteriors.

He was offered the task, without auditioning, after American manager Brett Leonard saw Whale Passenger. It's a depression budget motion picture, simply that budget - somewhere in the $US 15-20 million vicinity - dwarfs Whale Rider'southas does the pay cheque. The crew were all off Matrixand Star Warsproductions. I enjoyed Sydney. I enjoyed the harbour and savour Australians. They're wink at their work. I was very impressed by them

(7 February 2004)

The Screenwriter-Affair:

Hans Rodionoff chatted with Comicbookresources almost his work on the film and related comic.

Even though Rodionoff's script focuses on human being protagonists he felt it was important to capture the spirit of the comic book. He tried to include many of the ideas found in the comic. Man-Thing is true-blue to the spirit and the tone of the original comic books. To me, that means that it should exist a very atmospheric, creepy story about a mysterious entity in the swamp. The story touches on the thought of the Nexus of All Realities, but information technology'southward really just a pit terminate. Jennifer Kale is a cracking character, and someone that I would dearest to include in a sequel. I'one thousand keeping my fingers crossed that I get that opportunity. Just she'southward not in this movie, and neither is Howard the Duck. Other fundamental characters in the comic book are referenced, but not seen straight. One of the trademark catch-phrases in the Man-Thing comics was, 'Those who know fear burn at the touch of the Man-Thing.' Comic fans will be pleased to know that the cinematic Man-Thing might also have this power. In this film, everybody knows fear, and at that place's plenty of burning in the end...

Check out a afterwards interview with Fangoria

The Co-creator-Thing

The script is based on the Cry of the Native! story-line from Fright (Gamble into...)#15 and 16 which was written by Steve Gerber. I asked him in an interview if he had any contact with the motion picture makers involved. His reply: No.

The Promotion:

The Fetish-Thing

Man-Thing FestishSpotted on e-bay, amateur artist Sean Green has been making Man-Affair Mantokwe Fetish dolls (7"x3"x1.5"). A lot of experimenting with paint colours and then there's many coats of paint. Very small chip nether left hand, showing clay. Less than a 1-16" effectually. The Trailer-Matter:

The Photographs-Thing:

Man Thing from the movieBack in March 2004 comixfans.com posted the starting time image from the pic.

In mid-February 2005 more images from the motion-picture show were released to Comics Continuum,

The Mask-Thing:

Looking for a special Halloween costume already? Perhaps a Man-Thing mask based on the flick might appeal.

The Production History-Thing:

Plans changed radically for this project over the years since intentions to brand a film near Man-Affair were announced back in 2001. At that time it was intended to be a straight to video release.

Filming was conducted in Sydney, Australia without much in the way of news or promotion. The product wrapped in 2003.

Marvel Studios' Ari Arad (Producer) told The Continuum that the lead character in the upcoming Man-Thing movie would exist a combination of prosthetics and estimator-generated effects.

From the outset, Man-Thing was intended to exist a prosthetic, CG-enhanced beast,Arad told The Continuum during a visit to Marvel Studios So there was a peachy deal of R&D.... There'southward positional stuff happening on location, on the gear up, but at the same time the stuff y'all don't currently see in camera was e'er engineered to be enhanced by digital effects. And so when yous see the flick, hopefully the line is pretty blurry. It's non an all-CG creature.

In January 2004 Arad said that Human being-Thing is a scrap more than of a departure from the original comic than Curiosity'due south other films. Information technology'due south a horror picture show,he said. Information technology'due south a unlike telling of the Man-Affair. He'southward more menacing. Then in April 2004 Arad stated that the pic had been completed, with the finished print received and waiting to exist tested with audiences, subsequently which an verbal release date would be adamant. According to Yahoo! Movies in June 2004, the picture was rated R for violence, grisly images, linguistic communication and some sexuality past the MPAA.

For a while the US release appointment for Man-Thing was going to be Halloween (Oct 31) 2004, but when Curiosity Enterprises released its Second Quarter financial report, Human being-Thing was included in the 2005 line-up with a release appointment 'to exist decided'. This suggested a lack of confidence in the film, and fabricated the publishing schedule for the prequel comic series and merchandise paperback a misfire. During Marvel's second quarter conference call in tardily July Arad stated That's probably a good thing ...Nosotros'll discuss in the next few weeks where we are going with information technology.. It seems those talks were less than positive, because the motion-picture show was nowhere to be seen in the release schedule included in Marvel'southward 2004 Third Quarter financial report, though the Internet Moving-picture show Data Base was still showing October 2005 every bit expected release engagement in the United states. Past late 2004 Arad had fallen strangely silent on the pic's progress, and it was left upward to Fierce Entertainment'due south Christopher Petzel, a spokesperson from i of the other production companies involved, to annotate that he anticipated an early on 2005 release date for the film: As far as I am aware Lions Gate is planning a release during the month of April 2005..

Somewhere forth the mode the producers decided they had a moving-picture show that either didn't warrant, or couldn't get U.s. movie house distribution, so suddenly the film was re-branded a SciFi Pictures' film for cable Television set. Thus it ended upward back where it started every bit a 'video' release, though over the intervening years the video format died and DVD had taken its place.

Screenwriter Hans Rodionoff was interviewed by Comics Continum virtually the moving picture shortly earlier it screened.

The Continuum: Was it a big disappointment that the flick didn't brand theaters?

Rodionoff: Man-Affair has been a thwarting to me in a number of ways, only the non-theatrical release is the least of them. Under the circumstances, I call up it's a good matter that it's premiering on the Sci-Fi Channel.

Marvel Universe appearances

Thor: Ragnarok trailer plus moving picture (2017)
thor_ragnarok_trailer.jpg - 13.9 KBThe first shot from the second trailer (released Jul 22, 2017) for the flick included a alpine building festoon with graphic symbol heads, the summit one of which is Manny. And so why should his visage beautify a building on an conflicting planet? My gauge; he'due south been a past participant in the gladiatorial style fights which Thor and Blob stop upwardly part of.
